Professional Bio
Hello! I'm Dr. Katie Stephens, a board-certified family physician and founder of Cimarron Family Practice in Montrose, Colorado.
I graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School in England in 2007 (MBChB) and completed five years of postgraduate training, including hospital rotations in cardiology, pulmonology, otolaryngology (ENT), emergency medicine, and endocrinology, as well as dedicated primary care training. I have practiced family medicine since 2012 and am board certified both as a General Practitioner in the United Kingdom (MRCGP 2012) and by the American Board of Family Medicine. After earning a top score on the ABFM certification examination, I was invited to participate in the standard-setting process used to help determine future board examination standards.
My approach to medicine is rooted in careful evaluation, continuity of care, and seeing the whole person rather than focusing solely on individual diagnoses. I value taking the time to listen, educate, and partner with patients in making informed decisions about their health. I have a particular interest in prevention, chronic disease management, and helping patients understand the underlying causes of illness so they can make meaningful, sustainable improvements to their health.
Although I grew up in Hong Kong and spent many years living and working in the United Kingdom, Western Colorado has been part of my life since childhood. My father was born in Montrose and raised in Olathe, and I spent many summers in the Cimarron area growing up. Returning to the region to raise my family and practice medicine has been especially meaningful.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy climbing, snowboarding, hiking, running, and spending time outdoors with my husband and our two children.
