Katherine Abbott

Katherine A. Abbott MD was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. She earned her B.A. in biology from the University of Louisville, where she also attended medical school, and completed her pediatrics internship and residency at Kosair Children’s Hospital in 1999.

She has worked as a pediatrician in the Louisville area for over 25 years. Private Primary Practice from 1999 to 2013, and then for Norton Children’s Medical Group from 2013 to 2024. She had a stroke at the age of 38, due to an autoimmune disease, and while she recovered well, her overall stamina and need to be on anticoagulants has affected her ability to see patients at the rapid rate now associated with healthcare. This, and general discontent with the limitations of corporate medicine, motivated her to pursue a model that was better suited to her needs.

The DPC model allows for a better work / life balance, since Dr. Abbott can decide the hours that she works, and appointments can be longer and more relaxed. She is committed to ensuring patients and their families receive the care they truly deserve, and this model allows her to focus her energy on getting to know each child and family more completely. She has always been a proponent of having direct communication between patient and doctor, which is one of the basic tenants of DPC practice. She believes that availability is key for patients to feel both safe and understood, particularly in a world where medical misinformation has become rampant.
